We're struggling here...

We are falling apart at the seams...about a week ago I dislocated my kneecap, and was crippled for a few days. It's not so bad now - all strapped up, but I have to keep going to physio for a while yet, and I can't get up and down from the floor very easily. Then Matt ran over Boo's foot with his bike when he was taking her to work - lucky he married a vet...


And now I have a ringing in my ear - constant, like a dial tone, which has been around for three days and is going nowhere... I feel like things are getting out of control. one more thing and the camel's back will break!

A break in the weather.

Finally, the clouds have cleared (after several weeks of incessant rain) and the sun has shown it's face again. It turns out that quite a lot of snow has fallen while the mountains were covered in cloud. It definitely feels like winter now...

If anyone knows how to take a decent passport photo of a six week old baby, please let me know..

Back in the game.

Now that I have baby wrangling sorted, I am baking again. I was spurred on partly by the disgusting store-bought biscuits that Matt has taken to buying (and that I can't resist eating despite their grossness, which only ends up leaving me feeling guilty and icky).

It feels great to be back in the kitchen. I started off with something simple - this morning I made a batch of these cookies, which are ultra sweet (I cut back on the sugar slightly) but very morish.


Warm choc-chip cookies with hot tea on a drizzly Christchurch Sunday. Perfecto.

My very first...

My very first Mother's day - pesto eggs, and a card from bubs. Nice.

Matt's contributions

While I was busy buying cots on TradeMe, and sewing nappies and nursery decorations, Matt acquired two items destined for the nursery.

The first was my feeding chair - I tried to photograph it in situ, but the place is a mess and it didn't do it justice...so here's an image I stole from Matt:


It's called a fried egg chair, by some guy called Hans Olsen. Turns out Matt actually bought it about two years before I got pregnant, and had to wait all that time wondering what how he was going to get it in the house. Lucky our baby showed up.

The second contribution was this poster:


He bought it when we were in Auckland last year, and when I was only a teeny tiny bit pregnant. It was from an exhibition of typefaces at Objectspace and is the typeface used in the old Air New Zealand branding.

I think he's trying hard to make our kid into a furniture and design nerd just like his dad.

Autumn has hit the Garden City
